LabCMO

Workaround researchers Claudine Bonneau, Camille Alloing and Florence Millerand, and research assistant Jennifer-Ann Beaudry are members of LabCMO – Laboratory for communication and the digital. LabCMO brings together nearly 20 researchers and 70 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows interested in the uses of digital technologies and media from the perspective of the changes they generate in society. The laboratory’s two main campuses are the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and Université Laval in Quebec City, but its members come from five different academic institutions.
The LabCMO is supported by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture and affiliated with the Centre de recherche interuniversitaire de recherche sur la science et la technologie (CIRST).
LabCMO Studies
LabCMO studies mobilize interdisciplinary approaches to analyze the social changes associated with the use of socionumeric media, through three axes of research : 1) Sociability practices, identities and solidarities ; 2) Informational practices, audiences and political action ; 3) Work practices, collaborations and professional worlds, and 4) Research practices, methods and ethical concerns. Researcher Claudine Bonneau coordinates the third axis, and Florence Millerand co-directs the Laboratory.
The Workaround project
The Workaround project contributes to the development of axes 3 and 4, insofar as the work practices induced by algorithmic management and what they reveal about the mutations of work are at the heart of the project. The experimentation and articulation of different methods, including digital methods, also makes contributions at methodological level.
